Reflection ~ Dotwork
Recently our assessment task was to create a dot painting of ourselves, focusing on positive and negative shapes. Firstly, we had to take a photo of ourselves in a pose. My pose was that of myself flying :) . Next we were to choose different coloured backgrounds, which we were also required to paint, and sketch the outline of our bodies. It was our decision whether to include any of the surrounding negative shapes. I chose to disclude these objects, and focus on the main shape or pose. We designed our portrait using a chalk outline, pencil sketch and various coloured paints including gesso. After defining the shapes of our portrait, we were to colour the painting, using basic colours as well as mixing primary and secondary colours. To create a realistic skin colour, we mixed gold, red, pink and brown. After the completed creation of our portraits, we began dot painting using colours gold and white. In the dot painting we could include swirls and whorls aside the actual outline of the portrait. We then waited patiently for them to dry and cut out the painting ~ leaving a lovely end result. I enjoyed this task however it was quite time consuming and the face, I felt, was quite hard to perfect. On the other hand, I loved doing the dots as I felt they were very creative and unique!! :)
